Golden Valley Interchange

The Problem
A survey conducted on the bridge deck identified that it had chlorides that could cause corrosion risk in the future. The client was knowledgeable about the benefits of ICCP but felt it was a disproportionate solution to what they were dealing with.

Our Solution
It was agreed that once the contractor was on site and the bridge-deck asphalt and waterproof membrane had been removed, a full half-cell potential survey would be carried out to create a map of the high-risk areas. Using this map combined with core sampling to measure chloride levels, a cost-effective targeted protection design was developed using Galvashield® CC type 2A anodes.

The Result
The solution gave the client confidence that they had adequately dealt with the risk of early corrosion damage. The Galvashield® CC galvanic anode saved the need for ongoing maintenance and monitoring, although validation boxes were installed so readings could be taken if the client wished to do so.
