5353 Dundas Street West Parkade

The Problem
Through exposure to deicing salts over many years, the parking slab has become chloride contaminated, leading to extensive corrosion activity of the embedded reinforcing steel. Left unchecked, the expansion of corrosion products has caused cracking, delamination and spalls resulting in the need for many partial and through slab concrete repairs.

Our Solution
After removing all unsound concrete and cleaning the exposed reinforcing steel, Galvashield® XP2 and XP4 galvanic anodes were installed around the perimeter of the repair to prevent corrosion from being driven to adjacent parent concrete outside the repair area. The exposed reinforcing steel was coated with epoxy as an additional layer of protection.

The Result
As part of a quality concrete repair, the galvanic anodes installed along the repair perimeters will prevent patch accelerated corrosion or the halo effect for 20+ years, reducing the risk of future repair cycles and cost-effectively extending service life.
