BRAVO docks 25 and 26 are at U.S. Naval Base, Pearl Harbor.

The Problem

Years of exposure to harsh saltwater and heat had created a corrosive condition in these U.S. Navy piers in Pearl Harbor. Significant cracking and spalling in the piles required a system that would protect the exposed concrete. Long-term performance was needed, as these piers are expected to provide access to Navy ships for many years. In addition, concrete within the piles just above the waterline also required corrosion protection.

Our Solution

Galvashield DAS Jacket system was selected to provide a long-term corrosion mitigation system for the piles on this project. Galvashield DAS Marine, DAS anodes, and bulk anodes below the water line were connected to the reinforcing in the piles. A fiberglass jacket system was then installed, followed by a grout to encapsulate the anodes and reinforcing for the 600 piles.

The Result

The anodes could be installed separately from the jacket, and their lighter weight allowed the contractor to install the system without divers. This solution made for significant time and cost savings for the project. The completed Galvashield Jacket system will provide a high level of corrosion protection for many years to come.
